Piano introduction and exploration class for young children:
This class is a fun experience for ages 3 up. Children will hear the piano played, touch the piano, play keyboards and piano and have an introduction to the Suzuki piano approach.
The goal of this class is to create an interest in young children that will increase as they grow.
*The Suzuki Method is based on the premise that talent is a product of environment rather than heredity. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki believed that every child has talent to be developed, needing only the proper environment. Children learn music in the same way that they learn to speak — by imitating those around them, listening to good examples, and receiving encouragement and support. In the Suzuki Method, the learning process is broken down to the smallest possible steps so that the child achieves success at every level and learns at his or her own pace. The keys to the success of the Suzuki Method include motivation, repetition, listening, reinforcement, and parental involvement.
The Clavinova
Your child will use the Yamaha Clavinova. This is an excellent choice for piano students, and is used by many colleges for their keyboard programs. These are some of the reasons they chose it over an acoustic and why we chose to use it as well:
1) It's extremely helpful to have instruments that stay in perfect pitch. The consistent tuning of the Clavinova is invaluable.
2) The high quality of the instrumental sounds on the Clavinova allows us to broaden the curriculum by using orchestral instrumental sounds to study texture and form of keyboard pieces as well as pieces written for orchestral/band instruments.
3) The on-board record feature is another important reason we chose the Clavanova. It is so user friendly that students have no problem recording from the first time they sit at the instrument. The opportunity for students to listen to their own playing for immediate self-evaluation is an extremely effective education tool.
Guitar
Guitar: Individual and group lessons
Weekly jazz jam. For high school or college students. Must play piano, guitar, saxophone, bass or drums. The teacher plays all of these and will introduce some theory, teach how to improv and guide the fun. It is not necessary to read music to join in. Self taught players are welcome.
Violin
Suzuki Violin: Individual lessons ages 3 and up. One 30 minute class per week. The Suzuki method was first created to use with violin students. See additional notes in the Suzuki piano section above.
Traditional violin: Individual, and group strings, individual fiddle lessons.
Drumming

Drumming: Hand drumming for ages 3 to 12. This is a lot of fun and a great outlet for children to learn rhythm and to express themselves musically.

In the Hand Drumming group class the children will create drums and learn to play together.
Introduction to Hand Drumming is offered during the first term.
Advanced Hand Drumming is offered during the second term.
Traditional percussion is offered as well.
Voice:

Group voice: Special Group voice/dance/performance group called Liberty Live
