 Education:
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Ohio Dominican University
  • Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with minors in Art and Music also from Ohio Dominican.  Studied piano and voice at Ohio Dominican University, (created a video training program for preschool teachers for teaching music in their classrooms),

              Study Trip to Puerto Rico exploring latin music and hand drumming.

  • Masters Degree in Child Development from Ohio State University, Masters Thesis  was  music education for preschool teachers done in a multicultural setting (done in Los Angeles, California),
  • Ph.D. in Psychology from Ohio State University.
  • Additional Studies: Studied calligraphy, water color, the Reggio Approach for young children, the Montessori Method, use of percussion instruments, The Suzuki Piano Approach for preschool children, traditonal piano lessons, guitar lessons, accordian lessons, clarinet, hand drumming and more through various workshops,lessons  and conferences.

  • Music and Art Instructor for young children for Gymboree Play and Music in Dublin.
  • Director of Music for St. John's Early Learning Center in Worthington.
  • Principal of a Multicultural Elementary School. (Teaching Certification Preschool to 6th Grade and Principle's certificate.)
  • Kindergarten Teacher (Columbus Public Schools) and Preschool Teacher (Bexley United Methodist Preschool) Art Teacher (Columbus Public Schools)
  • Professor in the Early Childhood Department at Ohio Dominican University, chairing the department for two years.
  • Psychologist in a Private Practice setting working with children through play & art  therapy, specializing in marital & family counseling.(Bethel Counseling)
  • Multicultural Educator for Worthington schools writing the curriculum for and teaching Spanish I and II, Hand Drumming and Passport to the World Classes
  • Authored two books; Sing a Song Of Sunshine...original songs and lesson plans for preschool teachers and Tales to Tell...original stories and story props for preschool teachers as well as a chapter in a text book for counselors and numerous articles.
  • Opened for Slim Goodbody, Raffi and Ella Jenkins at a number of Early Childhood Conferences as a solo guitarist/singer.
  • Speaks, reads and writes Spanish. Spent time in Mexico City on a Spanish Immersion study trip, going to the Universidad De Mexico.
  • Girl Scout Leader, currently a Cadette leader, formerly Brownie & Junior Leader as well.
  •  Special interests and hobbies include singing and playing guitar with various bands, scrap booking and travel.  Part of her art interests included designing and sewing original fashions for barbie dolls. They were sold at National barbie shows and featured in national barbie magazines. She and her sister, Cathy created an original doll for over 30 barbie shows.  Their design name was Jacyoriginals. 

 

 

Family:

               Jan and her husband enjoy living close to the studio with their four children & their bichon, Mickey.  Although she loves teaching her favorite job title is "Mommy".

 

 

Jaime Alfonso Yamaguchi Torres , B.A., B.S.

Education: 

  • Jaime studied Percussion, Piano and Saxophone at the “Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterrey” under the guidance of Bryan Rouse (USA), Abercio Benitez (Mexico) and Noel Savon (Cuba) where he received a full-tuition scholarship.
  • He has three music degrees, graduating  with honors from Ohio State: Music Performance, Music Composition, and Jazz Studies.

  

Prior Experiences:

  • Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Jaime began to play guitar at an early age before moving to the drum set and piano.  Due to this mixture of influences, Jaime performs and writes music in many different styles of music such as: Jazz, Classical, Contemporary, Rock and Latin.
  • His group experience comes from playing with anywhere from orchestras to pop groups. Jaime began his solo career playing the “Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra” by Ney Rosauro, as a soloist accompanied by the “Orquesta del Tecnológico de Monterrey”, where he also studied Mechatronics (Engineer).
  • Jaime was  recently invited to record with the “Orquesta de la Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon,” the State’s Orchestra.  
  • His compositions include pieces for Big Band, Orchestra, Concert Bands, as well as solo and chamber music.
  • Jaime has participated in many percussion festivals where he has had the opportunity to learn and share from today’s percussion masters such as Nebojsa Zivkovic, Ted Piltzecker, and Horacio Hernandez.
  • He has appeared in musicals such as Anything Goes and Evita and has opened for piano virtuoso, Danilo Perez.
  • Jaime began teaching music 4 years ago for both public and private schools.

  • Gallery Tour guide for children at the Columbus Museum of Modern Art.
  •  Teaching assistant for local artist/teacher, John Lathram, at the Wexner Centers week long workshops for children and teens. Workshop  focused on creating interactive moving kinetic sculptures.
  • Goodale Park Earth Day Event; Creating fashions from recylable materials.
  • Creative drama/art mix
  • Reading tutor for elementary school children.
  • Lifeguard
  • Library art program leader.
  • Special interests and hobbies include musicals, especially the ones of the 1940s with great stars like Judy Garland and Gene Kelly.

  •  Children's show choir & theater director in Upper Sandusky, Ohio for 10 years. .
  • She has performed on stage since age 11 and studied various forms of dance for 12 years.
  • Lori has performed locally with Columbus Children's Theatre.
  • Her 8 years of experience teaching children at the private school, Ecole Francaise, has given her the added bonus of working with children in an every day setting as well as on stage.

  • Served as first chair soprano to the National Youth Choir for six years, and two years with the National Youth Jazz Ensemble.
  • Directed and performed with The Pea Pod Squad, a two-time award winning competitive improv team.
  • Performed as a cast member of ImprovBoston, where she also designed costumes.
  • Costume designer & makeup artist for two Hollywood films to be released next year: "We Got the Beat" and "Growth".
